Winter Centers
I love this time of year-- not the cold so much, but the giving season filled with friends and family. We celebrated in our classroom by participating in Winter Centers. We had a blast! Thanks to all the parents who were able to come and enjoy our time with us. We "decorated" paper Christmas trees with M&Ms using BIG numbers (11-20), made a jingle bell bracelet, an edible necklace, decorated cookies, and made reindeer food (I hope the reindeer enjoyed it on Christmas Eve!). Here are a few pictures from our fun day!
Our new door decoration. Layla E. taught us how to make snowflakes and we made a snowman!
We made many ornaments for our Christmas tree.
Caden showing off his reindeer food.
Mr. Scott helped Skai and Lauren with their necklaces.
Everyone's making jingle bell bracelets!
How does your necklace taste Veijah?
Learning about Hanukkah
We learned about many different Holiday Celebrations in December. Mrs. Fitzgerald's aunt came to discuss Hanukkah with us. We learned about the menorah, the temple, and the oil the Jews used that lasted for 8 days. We also got to play the game Dreidel. When the Roman guards came by the house during Hanukkah, the Jewish family would have their dreidels ready to play so they could trick the guards into thinking they were playing a game instead of worshipping God.

The Hebrew letters on the sides of the Dreidel.
Mrs. Michelle teaching us how to play.
Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Holly (Mrs. Fitzgerald's brother and mom) came to help us too.
Mr. Ben (Mrs. Fitz's cousin) helping us learn.
Mr. Fitzgerald even came to play with us!
Our First Thanksgiving
Just like the Pilgrims and Indians, Woodlawn Elementary celebrated our first Thanksgiving. Parents of the Pre-K through 2nd graders came to enjoy our feast. Our class had the most parents come out of the kindergarten classes. Wow! Great job! We also got to wear our Native American shirts we made ourselves. We used beads and painted Indian symbols on them for decoration.

Fun Fall Centers
In October, we held a few different fall centers in our room. We counted out candy to work on our math skills, we did some spider art with paint and marbles, decorated pumpkins, and even carved out a pumpkin to see what's inside (and count the seeds!), and made an owl snack (yummy!). We had some great parents volunteer to help out, and our friends Mrs. Paula and Mrs. Holly (Mrs. Fitzgerald's mom) came to make our snack with us. We had a great time!
Literacy Night- PJ Party!
Also in September, Woodlawn held it's first Literacy Night... and it was a pajama party! We had fun wearing our pj's to school, reading The Napping House, and eating cookies and milk. We had a great discussion about the book and a great time seeing everyone's pj's.
