Our first math unit in Kindergarten is shapes. We did many different things to learn about their characteristics. The kids had a blast!

We found circles all over the room, took pictures of them, and made them into a giant circle.

Each student was given a cut-out triangle. They could glue it anywhere on the paper and turn it into something. I learned I have some very creative students during this project!

With squares, we learned about t-charts and how they organize two groups of objects. Each student chose either a large or small square and wrote their name on it. We took turns pasting them to the paper, making sure they were in the right column.

We had to follow directions in order to make our very own rectangle. First, we painted two long yellow lines. The students weren't too sure about this at first. They couldn't quite see the big picture. Boy were they excited when I showed them how to paint the two blues lines! It turned into a rectangle!

We took a break from shapes one day to make our favorite colors graph. The students had cut out their hands for a homework assignment (to practice cutting). They colored them with their favorite marker and then had to tell me were to put it on the graph. They did a great job and learned about graphing.
