Happy Veterans Day!

Today we learned about the men and women who fight to keep us safe. We learned the word veteran and what it means. I think they really did understand the concept! We made a sign to e-mail to Mrs. Fitzgerald's Papa, who served in the Navy. We also made cards to send to Mrs. Fitzgerald's friend who is actively serving in the Army (we'll also send him this picture). I think my favorite part is that this sign is being used so many ways. Mr. Fitzgerald (who is in PA school), is rotating at the Veterans Clinic and will bring the sign from our class to hang in their office. I hope our precious children will bring joy to those men and women and let them know how much we appreciate them keeping our country a safe place to live.

Eating like a Spider

On our last day of studying spiders, we got to eat like them! Unlike us, spiders don't have teeth, so they inject their prey with poison, wait for it to soften, and then drink the insides. Sooo, each student was given a sugar cube (hard like an insect) and an eye dropper with a bowl of water (poison). They put water on the sugar cube until it dissolved. They were then given straws to suck the liquid like a spider. And they actually drank it!

Mrs. Mayeux stopped by to see what was going on. (It was crazy hat day... Mrs. Mayeux doesn't usually walk around like a pirate :)

Spiders vs. Humans

After learning all about spiders, we compared them to our own human bodies. We learned there are some similarities as well as many differences. We used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast these.

Mr. Bones helped us understand what our body looks like on the inside.

And we learned that unlike us, spiders do not have bones!

Spiders!

For the past two weeks, our class has been studying spiders! We've learned all about them: they have 2 body parts- head and abdomen, they have 8 legs and 8 eyes, and they are not insects! For homework, one assignment was to make a spider to send to school. We used these spiders to decorate our board! We're spinning our way through Kindergarten!

Thanks Ms. Shamp!

To recognize that spiders have two parts, we painted two different size paper plates and then put them together, adding wiggly eyes and legs!

Spelling Bee

Woodlawn held our second annual Spelling Bee on October 25th. Two students from each kindergarten class participated in the spelling bee. The students had a great time and it was an exciting opportunity for all of them.

Great job boys! We're proud of you!

Congrats to everyone!

Awards Program

We had our 1st 9-weeks Awards Program last month. There were so many awards given out! Great job Kindergarten! Keep up the good work!
